Boswinger – Mevagissey
A wet and windy morning – perfect for a steep climb up an exposed headland!

After The Lizard, Dodman Point is the next major south coast headland. When you’re walking, you measure your progress against these landmarks, so climbing Dodman felt like a milestone.
Skipping down the steep hill from Boswinger tightened my calves up so much they were screaming when the extreme down changed to an extreme up slope. Nothing was going to deter me, but I gotta say – it was painful. Good thing it was worth it. When I reached the top I hollered into the gloom and the wind, loud as I could (with only the shetland ponies to hear). Very cathartic 🙂

This ominous-looking cross is actually an enormous marine marker on top of Dodman Point. I guess it takes the place of a lighthouse, sans light.
The walk from there was relatively easy-breezy. Gradually the wind lessened and the sun played hide and seek with the clouds till you could probably call it a nearly lovely day.

At Goran Haven I stopped for a delicious looking Portuguese tart and coffee at the seriously multitasking post office/newsagent/bakery/tent cafe/gin joint (yes, you read that right). I was overwhelmed by deliciousness and forgot to take pics on my phone, sorry.
The remaining 3 miles went by in a caffeinated happy-haze and I arrived at Mevagissey mid-afternoon, with plenty of time to check out the this classic Cornwall harbour town.

I love this last pic. Check out the fisherman behind me.
