Mullion Cove – Lizard Point
The Lizard had been high on my wishlist since I’d first conceived of doing this walk. Something about distant outposts on the edges of remote landscapes has always appealed. Did someone say “getaway”? Yep, that’s my kinda place.
The Lizard is the awesomely-named most southerly point in England. There’s a lighthouse, a few little cafe/craft shacks, and a YHA. Simple. And only 10 km away 🙂
A short day’s walk calls for a short blog post. Basically, the path wound along exposed clifftops. Rocky in parts, nearly bare in others. Plenty of wide open space for happy cattle.

Every now and then there’d be a bit of a down-up, the most spectacular of which was Kynance Cove – a warren of rock formations (one of which is fabulously called Asparagus Island) on a beautiful golden beach that totally disappears from mid-tide. I had no idea it existed before stumbling upon it mid-afternoon on this gloriously sunny day.
Swarmed by day-trippers seeking out beauty and cream tea with a spectacular view, I unfortunately had to share the joy. Oh well…nothing’s perfect.

(don’t you think this rock looks like a giant frog?)
Another hour on and the Lizard lighthouse finally appeared in the distance, and the hostel it’s little cousin in the foreground.

Two nights in one place. Woohoo!

Stats: 26660 steps; 99 floors; 18.5 km
