SWCP Day 35 – 27 Sept 2018

Penzance – Marazion

Woken up waaay too early by an oblivious dorm mate, I was feeling gritty eyed and just all around blah.

Last year I walked a half day between Marazion and Sydney Cove (on the way to Porthleven) before breaking away from the swcp and heading north-east to walk the Thames Path. So, feeling less than fabulous, I decided not to repeat that section, but to just walk to Marazion and grab a bus onward to my intended camp ground near Sydney Cove.

This pretty much went to plan, with a few random exceptions.

First, the Edge of the World Bookshop in Penzance sucked me in and I was persuaded to purchase this local delight (which I haven’t read yet, but I will, promise)…

Second, the path east out of Penzance is flat and boring and hard under foot. The only attraction is the growing Saint Michael’s Mount, which is no doubt beautiful and fascinating, but I just wasn’t feeling it.

What saved the day, you might ask?

This duo was a good start…

But really, the only thing that would help was a proper sleep.

Third, the busdriver refused to drop me off at the corner closest to the camp ground because, and I quote, “it’s too dangerous to walk down that road and I don’t want to hear about you on the evening news”. Never mind the fact that walking the long way around wouldn’t remove the need to walk on that road (just up, instead of down).

Walking the long way round, however, took me to the bar at Sydney Cove where I was gathered up by a couple from Seattle who bribed me with a Korev to tell them all about my swcp adventure. Minutes later in walked Emily. Small world.

Eventually, I made it up to the Higher Pentreath camp ground and pitched for the night. Sleep, here we come!
