SWCP Day 22 – 12 Sept 2018

Westward Ho! – Instow

Bad thing about today: couldn’t stick out my tongue for a drink.

Good thing about today: sunshine!

Okay, so I know I went the wrong way today. Clockwise instead of anti-clockwise; water on the left instead of the right. Believe me, it did feel a bit wrong. But after spending most of the morning coughing up a lung (thanks to the lurgy I haven’t been able to shake for 10 days) I decided it would be better to be walking toward civilization and transport rather than away.

That said…drum roll please…I made it!

The giant pebble ridge between beach and golf course at Northam Barrow (horses are excellent lawn mowers) lead on to the muddy flats of Skern at low tide and the sweetest street imaginable in West Appledore…

I had fugured I could skip walking the Appledore to Instow bit since there usually is a ferry, but the purist in me just wouldn’t let it go, so I powered on under the gun of darkness, up the River Torridge to the lovely old Bideford Long Bridge, and down stream again as the tide rushed in. I arrived back at the Instow signal station…

…just in time for the glorious sun to slither below the hills of Appledore. Phew! (props to anyone who can figure out what this thing is).

Stats: 27952 steps; 57 floors; 20.67 km.
